The CommunityHealth Board of DirectorsWe are pleased to welcome Sandra F. Durley, PharmD and Karen Nichols, D.O. as our newest members of the board of directors effective July 2008. Sandra Durley, PharmD, is Associate Director, Ambulatory Care Pharmacy and Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Pharmacy. Among her many responsiblities, she oversees the coordination, quality and cost effectiveness of services provided at seven outpatient pharmacies, including the one located at Mile Square Health Center. Sandra has a special interest in meeting the needs of the uninsured and underinsured and has administrative responsibility for the University of Illinois Medical Center funded Medication Assistance Program which finds alternate funding sources for pharmaceuticals for uninsured and underinsured patients. She is a member of the Government Affairs Committee of the Illinois Council of Health System Pharmacists and has participated in various "legislative day" events. Over the past five years, she has been a key partner in the planning, development and implementation of the MedAccess Chicago pharmacy at CommunityHealth. Sandra and her family live in the suburbs of Chicago. Karen Nichols, DO, is the Dean and Professor of Internal Medicine at Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM). In addition to her DO degree (focus on internal medicine and geriatrics), Dr. Nichols holds a MA degree in management/health care administration and is a graduate of the American Osteopathic Association Health Policy Fellowship. She is involved in annual advocacy activities in both Springfield and Washington D.C. and serves as a media spokesperson for the osteopathic profession. Dr. Nichols currently serves on the governing board of the American Osteopathcic Association and has been on the board of several other medical organizations. She has long been a champion of CommunityHealth and strives to ensure that the issues confronting the uninsured are kept at the forefront of CCOM students -- many of whom particpate in a weekly Student-Run Clinic at CommunityHealth. Thanks to her nomination, CommunityHealth received the 2007 "Spirit of Humanity" Award from the American Osteopathic Foundation. Dr. Nichols and her husband live in both the Chicago suburbs and Arizona. |
