A message below from Volunteer Medical Director Babs Waldman, M.D. (pictured):
Dear Colleagues:
Dr. Serafino Garella founded CommunityHealth in 1993 with a team of volunteer physicians, and we remain committed to this model of care. It is because of our volunteer physicians that we are able to provide the quality and depth of care found at CommunityHealth.
Our 200+ doctors currently donate their time and talents at our modern, well-equipped health center, providing basic primary care and a variety of specialty services, including medical subspecialties and procedures such as colposcopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy. Physicians can volunteer a few hours a week, a few hours a month or even several times a year. Physicians can either engage solely in patient care or participate in our teaching programs, which include all Chicago-area medical schools and many residency training programs.
CommunityHealth is a patient-centered environment in which caring for patients is fulfilling and gratifying and there are no insurance forms or claims to file. Donating your time and expertise can help make a difference in the lives of those facing complex medical needs and barriers to quality health care.
In addition, operating under the Illinois Good Samaritan Act, all volunteer licensed physicians are exempt from medical liability of any kind.
If you're a licensed provider (MD, DO, RN, NP, PA, PT, PharmD) and would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities at CommunityHealth, contact Kelly Jordan, Volunteer Services Coordinator. Please know how much your participation would mean to the thousands of underserved patients seen at CommunityHealth. Thank you.

Babs Waldman, M.D.
